The Kangra Bride

“Kangra Bride”   Painting By Sobha Singh

The dawn is breaking;
It is time for her to set off for her new home.
She has pulled the scarf over her head
through which peeks her lovely profile.
Her dreamy almond-shaped eyes pine for
a final look at the home she is leaving behind.
Innocent elegance draped in demure composure,
she sits in a palanquin–uncertainty and hope decorating her eyes.

(Last year, I had been to Himachal Pradesh. I visited the Sobha Singh Art Gallery in Andretta village, which is around 14 km south of Palampur and is a prime art centre.)
